How was your weekend? I was teaching 5th graders at the time and on a Monday morning I was busy writing down my lesson plan when a student comes in the room, and I say, how was your weekend? I keep writing and I hear “blah, blah… blah” and at the pause, I said: “Sounds like you had a good weekend”. And that’s when he replied: “…but my horse died…”

Unbuttoned blouse I was wondering why my college students were paying so much attention to a particular grammar lesson. Later I realized the top buttons of my shirt were unbuttoned. I hear this is not an uncommon experience as a professor.

Bumpy encounter Yes, I did what you only see in movies. I turned my head to look back at that girl and hit a pole. Yes, that’s it! May not seem cool enough to you but it was very embarrassing nonetheless.

Wheelie As a French man from the South of France, I’m pretty proud of myself. One day I was biking in the street and saw this hot girl. So I wanted to show off by doing a wheelie. 2 seconds later I was on the floor and I heard her laugh.

Cutting steak the proper way I was having lunch at the former Ciboulette French restaurant, minding my own business and reading the newspaper. When my steak frites arrived, I was only partially paying attention to the food, a no-no in a French restaurant. After a while, the waiter drops by and says: “the chef says that it’d be easier to eat if you cut across the grain of the steak”. I actually learned something that day but being French myself, this was quite embarrassing.

Tennis I was playing tennis as a teenager with my host family from England. The ball got caught in the net. The father got there before me. So for no good reasons, I hit his head with my racquet, bent down, picked up the ball and because he had a headache, gave it to him. I swear, sometimes, invisible people take over our body.
