I cannot believe Barracks Road is closing its location of the Bath and Body Works store!!!!!!! I’ve been going there for years, and they’ve gotten a lot of business from me in large part because of the convenient location. It hasn’t been publicized, but when I went in today, the staff informed me that they are closing that location on May 24th 2008, and the only remaining Charlottesville location will be up at Fashion Square Mall, until a new location is opened (and that’s yet to be determined in the future–probably when a new shopping center opens on Pantops in 2010). Store staff said something about their rent/lease at Barracks Road not being renewed for another ten years. This is an incredibly HUGE disappointment to me, and I’m sure, to many in the UVA community (especially students), who gave that particular location a lot of business. The trek to the other store at Fashion Square Mall, while not impossible, will be MUCH, MUCH less convenient b/c it’s out of the way from home/school/work–I suspect that I will only end up going there with a definite purpose, when I know I want to buy something specific, rather than just go into the store to look around and smell the new fragrances. In that sense, I suspect they will lose some of the business they had at the Barracks Road location. Bad, bad, bad, bad decision.
