Web site: http://www.hiromitaichi.org/ About the founder, Hiromi Johnson Mission: Hiromi T’ai Chi is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and promoting the health benefits and art of T’ai Chi Ch’uan in the Charlottesville Virginia community. We offer training in the Cheng-Ming System as taught by Grandmaster Wang Shu-Jin as well as other related martial and healing arts. Vision: Our goal is to provide students a positive, supportive atmosphere and quality teaching for a reasonable fee. Our teaching philosophy is that these arts can only be passed down in a teacher-to-student relationship. We provide one-on-one instruction to all students. We do not set any time frame to finish the form, as we believe each individual needs to progress at their own pace. Classes are ongoing and students can start any time, and proceed at their own pace. Tai ChiT’ai Chi Ch’uan (Taijiquan) is a martial art characterized by soft, slow flowing movements that are performed with precision. It emphasizes relaxation, and is a form of meditation in motion. The benefits of T’ai Chi Ch’uan include improved balance, muscle tone and stress reduction. T’ai Chi Ch’uan means "the grand terminus" and can be translated “the Way of Supreme Harmony.” T’ai Chi Ch’uan helps you to deal with yourself and others more effectively. It emphasizes learning control over yourself. It challenges you to become a better person by allowing the real you to emerge without limitations. This is a part of the paradox of opening up and becoming powerful. In the philosophy of T’ai Chi Ch’uan everything is understood in terms of the opposing and complementary principles, yin and yang. Harmony emerges from the natural balance of self and world. Qi GongCh'i Kung (Qi Gong) is an ancient Chinese system of self-cultivation developed specifically for protecting health, promoting vitality and prolonging life, while cultivating spiritual awareness and insight. It consists of a series of fluid movements coordinated with the breath to increase flow of energy throughout the body and the mind. Ch'i is a concept which includes breath, energy and vitality. Kung means work, and refers to techniques or skills that require time, effort, patience and practice. Ch'i Kung helps prevent illness by building the body’s immune systems and internal strength. It offers a method of training the nervous system, the mind and the internal organs simultaneously, so that the inner strength of the whole person is raised to a new level of power and fitness. It can be adapted to any physical challenge. Benefits of T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Ch’i Kung
