Pierre Barrieu - Soccer conditioning, soccer fitness

Pierre Barrieu is the founder of soccerconditioning.net and also the US Men National Team and US Olympic Team Head Strength and Conditioning coach. While at UVA, Barrieu was in charge of the men soccer as well as men and women tennis programs.

His first assignment with the US Soccer Federation was working with the Under-18 Men's National Team. Barrieu was then named the US Men's National Team strength and conditioning coach for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2002, a tournament that the US eventually won! Barrieu was the conditioning coach for the 2002 World Cup Team in Japan/South Korea during the historic USA run to the QUARTER FINALS!

Before he left UVA, he was assisting the strength and conditioning Head Coach Tony Decker with the UVa football team. Barrieu joined the Virginia coaching staff with an experienced background in strength and conditioning. He was named a USA Weightlifting (USAW) Certified Club Coach in 2001 and earned his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2000.

His passion for high-level conditioning started before his appointment to the University of Virginia and then the US Soccer Federation. Back in 1995, Barrieu received his fifth-year diploma in Education from the University of Nancy's Master's Institute in France. There, he researched the nature and effects of the psychological factors on training processes and performances of long distance runners.

In 2001, Barrieu helped guide the UVa men's soccer team to a record of 17-2-1, 6-0-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. His strength and conditioning regimen helped propel Virginia into becoming the first team in ACC history to win a regular season championship after winning all of its games by shutout. The Cavaliers spent the entire season ranked in the Top 25 of several national polls and three players (Kyle Martino, Marshall Leonard and Steve Totten) were drafted in the 2002 Major League Soccer Super Draft under Barrieu's guidance.
